Established in June 2003, National University Virtual High School (NUVHS) is an affiliate of the National University System. NUVHS is independent, nonprofit, online secondary school committed to meeting the needs of high school students seeking alternative classroom opportunities. NUVHS offers a variety of high school core subjects, electives, and advanced placement courses in an internet-based, virtual, interactive environment. All NUVHS courses are instructor-led by California credentialed teachers considered highly qualified under the federal No Child Left behind (NCLB) criteria.

Since it’s inception, NUVHS has served over 1250 part time and fulltime students from across California, the Nation and overseas, offering over 67 semester courses in standard subjects, Advanced Placement, and general elective. At NUVHS, students can earn an accredited high school diploma or enroll in supplemental coursework to enhance their high school academic experience. NUVHS courses are considered college preparatory and are developed to ensure that students receive the most interactive and engaging learning experience available. NUVHS works with over 170 schools throughout California and the United States.

NUVHS is accredited by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC), as well as the Commission on International and Trans-Regional Accreditation (CITA). NUVHS has received UC “a-g” online provider status, and all courses have been approved for NCAA eligibility. Additionally all Advanced Placement courses have been reviewed and approved by the College Board.

NUVHS is affiliated with a number of professional and educational organizations that provide additional guidance in educational trends, online learning, as well as serve as a source for current educational research in the fast evolving arena of online education.

Students attended NUVHS for a variety of reasons including those students with stronger academic backgrounds and college aspirations as well as those students who may have fallen behind at their primary school and are looking for alternative options to recover credit and repeat courses to stay on track to graduate. Other reasons include for enrichment, accelerating coursework to advance academically, or enrolling in AP or other coursework that is not offered at their home high school. Students are also coming to NUVHS to pursue fulltime enrollment with the intent of graduating from the school.
